Abstract

Abstact: This study investigates the implementation of the flipped classroom approach to foster autonomous learning among students at SMA Negeri 2 Purbalingga. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the research examines how English teachers utilize this approach to support student autonomy. Data was collected through observations, interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman's model. Results indicate that the teacher employed a mixed-method approach, combining cooperative learning with other methods to cater to diverse learning objectives. By encouraging student choice and responsibility within group activities, the teacher fostered an environment conducive to autonomous learning. Furthermore, the teacher incorporated student input in topic selection and integrated real-world issues into project-based activities to enhance critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The teacher provided constructive feedback through various channels and monitored student progress to offer individualized support. Despite challenges in motivating students towards autonomous learning, the flipped classroom approach proved effective in enhancing student engagement and independence, ultimately contributing to their academic success.
