Abstract

As children grow, they need support and guidance to move forward. If something unusual or concerning is discovered, parents must intervene and encourage their children to discuss and consider the perspectives of others, providing understanding and guidance with appropriate input. Toxic parenting is common in every family in Indonesia. An example of toxic parenting is evident in a child from a broken home. The toxic parenting a child experiences can have a fatal impact on their behavior and future. The mental health and psychological conditions experienced by victims of toxic parents also disrupt their growth and development. This research is field research. The research was conducted in accordance with the author's criteria: Islamic Family Law students from the class of 2021 who have taken the Family Counseling course. The study was conducted on male and female students experiencing these problems at the Prof. K.H. Saifuddin Zuhri State Islamic University in Purwokerto. Secondary data used were books, articles, journals, and expert opinions. This research approach is empirical (sociological). The method was then assessed deductively and qualitatively, emphasizing the validity of the theory and the data obtained. Based on the research results, toxic parenting can potentially cause a child to develop less than optimally in terms of their interests and talents due to educational choices based on parental preferences. This type of parenting can lead to other negative factors in family problems that will have a significant impact on future generations. Causes of this type of parenting include high levels of stress within the family, broken homes, and legacy of previous parenting. Optimizing a child's potential is a mandatory task so that children grow and develop optimally based on their talents and interests, which is a principle of Maqāṣid Syarīʿah.
