Abstract

Hijab is clothing worn by a Muslim woman with the function of covering her genitals. With the rapid development of the era, hijab has developed into part of a commodity and fashion trend where the wearer is not only used as a form of obedience to religious commands. Especially for students, where they only wear hijab for formal activities. Students choose to wear hijab in formal situations such as on campus and they choose to follow the use of hijab according to what is developing and widely used today. The study aims to determine the determination of wearing the hijab as a formality for UIN Saizu Purwokerto students. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach, while the data collection methods used were interviews, observation and documentation. The subjects in the study were 5 people, namely students of UIN Saizu Purwokerto where in the initial survey it was indicated that there was a determination to wear the hijab as a formality. The results of the study show that the determination of the formalism of the hijab by students of UIN Saizu Purwokerto who were the subjects in this study, seen from Louis Althrusser's Ideological theory in the concept of the Ideological State Apparatusser (ISA), namely as a description of maintaining appearance. Feeling the need to wear the hijab to increase self-confidence and image in the social environment, or in the social media that is owned. This is due to the low understanding of religion, lack of interest in learning about the hijab and perspectives on religion. One of the driving forces for the determination of the formalism of wearing the hijab is the low understanding of religion towards the hijab. In addition, the form of determination to wear the hijab occurs due to family and social environmental factors. Keywords: Hijab, Determination, Students, Fashion Trends, Formalism
