Abstract

This research aims to analyze students' perceptions of the implementation of genre- based approach in teaching writing at the eleventh grade of SMA N 1 Bukateja, Purbalingga. This research used descriptive quantitative method with questionnaire as technique of data collection. The questionnaire statements are 41 items and distributed to 177 respondents. The data is then presented in the form of a table after calculating the percentage of each statement. Then the average of the percentage of each part was calculated. The results of this research showed that students' perceptions of the application of genre-based approach reached 77,9% which if classified is included in the high level, thus it can be concluded that perception is positive. The results explained that the percentage of building knowledge of the field reached 76%, modelling of the text reached 78,2%, joint construction of the text reached 80%, independent construction of the text 78,2% and the learning process in general reached 76,9%. The percentages of all these parts fall into the high level classification which means that students’ perception on the genre-based approach in teaching writing are positive.
