Abstract

Teachers are an essential component to support the achievement of educational goals. In carrying out their role, teachers must be equipped with competencies so that the teacher can provide progress for student learning achievement. This competency is related to the knowledge and skills of a teacher in designing, implementing, and evaluating the learning process, which is referred to as pedagogical competence. This research aims to explore the pedagogical competence of English teachers in designing, implementing, and evaluating learning. This research was conducted at SMK N 1 & 2 Banyumas using a qualitative descriptive method, which was directly monitored through observation, interview, and documentation. All English teachers at SMK N 1 & 2 Banyumas already have pedagogical competence. In practice, English teachers from both schools have been able to understand students, make lesson plans, implement the curriculum, and evaluate student learning outcomes. However, some teachers still use a shared lesson plan, and the existing components still need to be completed in making the lesson plan. Because vocational high schools are different from senior high schools, schools should start paying attention to English for specific purposes so that English learning is still related to vocational programs, and schools should provide workshops for teachers on how to apply English learning for vocational schools, this will certainly help teachers improve their pedagogical competence.
