Abstract

This research aimed toanalyze the use of visual media, to find out the advantages, and the obstacles of teaching english vocabulary for diffable students by using media at SMPLB N Banjarnegara. This research used qualitative descriptive approach. The subjects of the research were English teacher and students with hearing impairment in grade VIII-IX SMPLB N Banjarnegara. The objects of the research were the use of visual media, the advantages, and the obstacles of teaching english vocabulary for diffable students by using visual media. The data were obtained through observation, interview, students’ self-reports, and documentation. The data were obtained from observation, interview, students’ self-reports, and documentations were analyzed qualitatively. The researcher used triangulation data to get the conclusion. The researcher found that the use of visual media in teachingEnglish vocabulary for students with hearing-impairment at SMPLB N Banjarnegaracould help the teacher and the students to achieve the learning goals introduce and improve students’ English vocabulary. However, the media used were still limited, that were whiteboard, images, picture dictionary, and realia. The teacher also still used the media manually which the teacher used whiteboard to write the material, and other media to give an overview to the students. The advantages of the use of visual media are media helped the students to understand the material easier, the media were easy to use by the teacher, and the media were easy to get. The obstacles are the lack of students practice so that they forgot the vocabulary taught, get wrong with what the teacher means, and the lack of teacher’s ability to operate computer based media such as LCD, Laptop, etc.
