Abstract

One effective tool to raise public awareness of gender equality is through film. Film is a form of expression of social reality that depicts the reality that occurs in society which is of course based on cultural codes, customs and pre-existing ideologies. Gender is one element of reality that exists in society and can be raised in film. The topic of Gender is still controversial in society, because many people still do not understand the differences between gender and biological sex. By presenting issues regarding gender equality through a strong and emotional story, film can help increase public understanding of equality and freedom from genderbased discrimination. This study uses a qualitative approach using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis method. The researcher will describe and describe the representation of gender in the film Imperfect. The data source used in this study comes directly from the object of research, namely the Film Imperfect. The results of the study concluded that the meaning of denotation, connotation, and myth in the film Imperfect is found in the storyline, characters and messages conveyed in the film. The results of this study found 13 scenes/scenes that represent gender in the film Imperfect. Keywords: Representation, Gender, Imperfect Film
