Abstract

THE EFFECT OF SMARTPHONE USE ON STUDENTS' COGNITIVE DEVELOPMENT AT MI NEGERI 1 BANYUMAS Fani Komala Dewi NIM. 2017405089 Abstract: The use of smartphones can have positive or negative impacts depending on how students use them. One of the positive impacts of smartphone use for students is that it can improve cognitive development, while one of the negative impacts of smartphone use for students is that it can cause excessive smartphone use. The purpose of this study was to describe the effect of smartphone use on the cognitive development of students at MI Negeri 1 Banyumas. The type of research conducted was quantitative in the form of Ex Post Facto. The instruments in this study included questionnaires, observations and documentation. Questionnaires were used to measure smartphone use by students. Observations were used to directly determine the impact of smartphone use on cognitive development. While documentation was used to determine data on learning success when using smartphones. The subjects of the study were 58 fifth grade students. This study used a data validity test on the questionnaire instrument that would be used to obtain data. The research data analysis technique used descriptive analysis and inferential statistical analysis. Inferential statistical analysis included prerequisite tests and hypothesis tests. Prerequisite tests included normality tests, homogeneity tests and linearity tests. While hypothesis tests included simple correlation tests and simple linear regression tests. The results of the study indicate that there is an influence of smartphone use on the cognitive development of students at MI Negeri 1 Banyumas. This is evidenced by the correlation coefficient value of 0.825, and the r square value or determinant value of 68.0% and a significance value of 0.000 <0.05. Based on this, it shows that there is a positive and very strong relationship between smartphone use and students' cognitive development. Keywords: Smartphone Usage, Cognitive Development, Learners
