Abstract

In this case, the researcher tries to find effective way to be used in teaching English for the students. One of defining aspects of learning is using learning approaches. There are a lot of learning approaches, one of which is project based learning. Project based learning (PBL) is a student‟s centered pedagogy that involves a dynamic classroom approach in which it is believed that students acquire a deeper knowledge through active exploration of real-world challenges and problems. Students learn about a subject by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to a complex question, challenge, or problem. It is a style of active learning and inquiry-based learning. The researcher expects with the use of project-based learning in teaching English. Then, PBL is used to make learning like acquisition so that learning is more natural and interesting and the students are interested and motivated in learning English. PBL is a learning strategy which is organized around projects in the form of complex tasks based on challenging questions or problems. In teaching and learning process using PBL, the students conduct an exploration, interpretation, and synthesis to achieve the learning objectives. The research collected data and observed information produce from visiting the research location. The purpose of this research is to find out the theories or learning methods that exist in schools. the author chooses the type of research is qualitative because this research aims to explain how the implementation of project- based learning at 9 grade of SMP Negeri 1 Cimanggu, Cilacap.
