Abstract

This research is motivated by the existence of low mathematical reasoning ability. This is evidenced by the results of preliminary tests conducted on grade VIII SMP Negeri 2 Ajibarang with an average value of 48.89. To improve students mathematical reasoning skills, it is necessary to renew/ innovate the learning used. Learning that can be done should be through the development of technology and the reality of life so that they can be active and easy to understand the lesson. With that learning will be more interesting and support the learning process of students. Therefore, this study aims to determine the effect and effectiveness of the use of GeoGebra media with the PMR approach to improving the mathematical reasoning ability of Class VIII students. Quantitative research with the type of quasi-experimental experiment (quasi-experimental design) and Nonequivalent Control Group Design. The population in this study were eighth-grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Ajibarang. The sampling technique used is simple random sampling and the results were obtained from the sampling of Class VIII I (experimental class) and Class VIII G (Control class) with the number of each 34 and 31 students. The instrument used in this study is a description test consisting of a pretest and a posttest. The results of this study disagree with the average mathematical reasoning ability of students who were subjected to GeoGebra media with PMR approach more than those not subjected to GeoGebra media with PMR approach which is seen from the t-test of two independent samples with the results of significance 0.000 ≤ 0.05 then there are differences in the mathematical reasoning ability of experimental and control class students. The use of GeoGebra media with PMR approach was declared effective to improve the ability of mathematical reasoning with the results obtained by the average N-Gain in the experimental class by 61,99% with a fairly effective interpretation and control class by 28,55% with ineffective interpretation.
