Abstract

Three main issues in this research are: (1) Vision as the ultimate goal in the implementation of PAUD services has been oriented to character formation but can not be translated into the form of PAUD service implementation that focuses on the implementation of character education. (2) The managerial ability of PAUD head is still limited. (3) PAUD institutions have not been able to develop the curriculum of PAUD oriented to the implementation of character education for children. The purpose of this research is to find the concept of character education management for children in the learning center program. Based on these objectives, the authors use the theory of the four functions of management according to George R. Terry, namely planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision. Data in this research were collected by using interview technique, observation and documentation. Then the data were analyzed by using general inductive approach. The results showed four things. First, the learning center planning to shape the character of early childhood is done by: (1) determining the character values internalized in the center learning program; (2) to determine the purpose of character education for early childhood in the learning center program; (3) formulate theme, semester program, RPPM, and RPPH in learning center program to form the character of early child. Second, the organizing of learning centers to shape the character of early childhood is done by: (1) Determining the person in charge at each center; (2) to make job description of responsible center of learning; (3) arrange schedule of learning center program then socialize it. Third, the implementation of learning centers to shape the character of early childhood is done by: (1) carrying out the learning activities of the center; (2) support center learning activities by conducting habituation activities on welcoming activities, preliminary activities and closing activities; (3) carrying out educational play activities on a footing while playing in learning centers; (4) apply healthy playing rules to children when playing on a footing while playing; (5) support the implementation of center learning by providing adequate budget and adequate facilities and infrastructure; (6) cooperate with parents and the education community. Fourth, the supervision of learning centers to shape the character of the child is done by: (1) diagnosing problems encountered in the implementation of learning centers to shape the character of early childhood; (2) make improvements in the implementation of learning centers to shape the character of early childhood. The conclusion of this research is the success of kindergarten al-Irsyad al-Islamiyyah Purwokerto in shaping the character of early child is influenced by the ability of head of kindergarten in managing early childhood institute which focus on forming child character; The ability of teachers to translate and apply the ideas of head of kindergarten; Support, parents, community funds and adequate facilities and infrastructure; Enforcement of healthy rules in the kindergarten environment; And the ability of the kindergarten head, teachers and staff to set an example for the child. Recommendations are the values of characters that are internalized to the child should be used as a work culture of school community.
