Abstract

This study was used experimental research that aims to determine the effectiveness of using the speed-reading method in teaching reading comprehension and to see whether there was a significant difference between learning strategies and learning outcomes on the reading comprehension of students at SMA Negeri 1 Cipari. The data were collected through pre-test and post-test. The data were analyzed using statistical analysis techniques, and the hypothesis used a ttest in the IBM SPSS Statistics 26 program. Based on the research data, there is a significant difference in teaching reading comprehension between students taught using the speed reading with students without using the speed-reading method at SMA Negeri 1 Cipari. The t-tablel value was 1,980. Thus, the calculated t-value was 0.000 < t-table 1.980 with 31 degrees of freedom and a significance level of 0.05. In other words, the probability (Sig. 2-tailed) was lower than the significance level (0.000 < 0.05). Because t-count > t-table and p < 0.05, it can be assumed that Ha was accepted and H0 was rejected. These results indicate that after the speed-reading technique was used to teach reading comprehension, the results obtained after the test are significantly different from before the test. In other words, teaching reading comprehension using the speed-reading method was effective in teaching students’ reading comprehension at 11th grade SMA Negeri 1 Cipari.
