Abstract

The aim of this study is whether there is a significant effect on students’ motivation after using Duolingo or not. In this research, the researcher uses preexperimental research. Related to the research problems, the researcher used a pre experimental r esearch design with a onegroup pretest- posttest design in this research. Depending on the paired sample ttest, the significance of the data is 0.003 was lower than the level of significance (0.05). It means Ho was rejected and Ha was accepted. It means t hat there was a significant effect difference between the mean score of the pretest and the posttest. In this research, it means that the alternate hypothesis was accepted. So, the conclusion of this research is that the use of the Duolingo application can increase 7thgrade students' motivation in learning English. Based on data in the chapter iv, the researcher concludes that Duolingo Application can used as media for English language learning in developing students’ motivation to learn English at SMP N 2 Kroya.
