Abstract

Mathematics learning in Indonesia has been started since 1973. When the government changed the counting learning in elementary school into learning mathematics. Since then the subjects of mathematics have become compulsory subjects in elementary school. But the fact that happened, although the school in Indonesia has had enough experience in applying mathematics subjects, it turns out the results achieved is still not satisfactory. Some of the things that characterize the practice of mathematics learning in Indonesia are teacher-centered learning. The practice of education that has been going on in school is very far from the real nature of education. According to Depdiknas in 2001 the purpose of learning mathematics in primary school is education that makes students as human beings who have the ability to learn to develop their potential, develop further knowledge and be able to solve various problems. This is evidenced by the low ability of students in aspects of problem-solving skills. This problem occurs in class V MI Ma'arif NU Darur Abror Kedungjati when the teacher gives a problem that measures aspects of problem-solving abilities, students are still difficulties. Teachers are also still confused in teaching mathematics to improve aspects of problem-solving skills. This is because the learning during this time is fixed on the module, giving the type of routine questions and the teacher only gives the formula in general without digging the students' ability when according to Hans Frudhental that mathematics is a human activity and must be associated with reality. Because mathematics can not be separated from the problems of everyday life. So students need to be given learning by using a realistic mathematical approach to improve problem-solving skills. Therefore, the researcher wants to experiment about the effect of realistic mathematics learning approach to problem solving ability. The purpose of this research is to know (1) whether there is influence of realistic mathematics learning approach to problem solving ability in experimental group and control grup students, (2) whether there is a difference in the effect of realistics mathematics learning approaches to the ability of problem solving of high, medium and low ability student in the experimental group. This research is a case study research using quasi experimental research type. This research was conducted in MI Ma’arif NU Darur Abror Kedungjati year lesson 2017/2018. The population of this study were all 5th graders. Of the population researchers took samples in the class 5 MI Ma’arif NU Darur Abror with purposive sampling technique. The researcher took two classes, namely class 5A as experimental class and class 5 B as control class. The data analysis technique used mean difference test and n-gain with statistical test of Mann-Whitney and KruskallWallis. Result of data analysis show (1) there is influence of realistic mathematics learning approach to problem solving ability in experimental group and control grup students, (2) there is no difference in the effect of realistics mathematics learning approaches to the ability of problem solving of high, medium and low ability student in the experimental group.
