Abstract

ENGLISH TEACHING STRATEGIES FOR STUDENTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES AT SMPLB C-C1 YAKUT PURWOKERTO Aznyatul Maulida S.N 1717404008 English Education Study Program Prof. K.H.1 Saifuddin Zuhri State Islamic University Purwokerto ABSTRACT The teacher's strategy at SMPLB C-C1 Yakut Purwokerto is an important thing that can deal with student with intellectual disabilities. Student with intellectual disabilities have an IQ below the national average. The goal of this study was to describe the learning strategies used in developing how student with intellectual disabilities receive and apply English learning at school,as well as to analyze the factors that supported and inhibited the development of reading and writing skills in mentally retarded children. This study employs qualitative research as its methodology. Data collection was accomplished through observation, interviews, and documentation. The teacher creates lesson plans and to help children with intellectual disabilities improve their abilities. Direct learning strategies is the learning strategies employed by the teacher. The lecture method, exercise method, and task method are all used for learning. Letter cards and pictures are used as learning media. A check list and a written test are used to assess learning. Teacher factors, habituation, and parental participation are all helpful in developing reading and writing, speaking skills in student with intellectual disabiliyies. The ability of students and the lack of parental participation are the impediments. Keywords : Teaching,, Strategy, Intellectual Disabilities
