Abstract

Pondok Pesantren (Islamic Boarding School) Raudlatut Thalibin Leteh Rembang is an educational institution which still applies traditional system mixed with limited modern system. The ideas of pesantren-based education management is considered as a need to survive in globalization era. Gus Mus‟ thoughts of pesantren-based education management has an important role to enable pesantren effectively and efficiently operate. This research aims to describe and to analyze Gus Mus‟ thoughts in implementing pesantren-based Islamic education management and to discover Gus Mus‟ ideas on ideal pesantren education. The data of this research is collected from Gus Mus who plays a key role as the decision maker in educational process in pesantren; he is the educator, key informant, and advisor of the pesantren. This research, furthermore, applies social phenomenology-qualitative approach which data is collected through observation, interview, documentation and descriptive-qualitative data analysis. The research result shows that Gus Mus‟ thoughts in managing pesantren tend to apply family management-based in which the education management implements the traditional value of “tazkiyah and barokah” covering planning (isyarah), organization (ad dakwah), science leadership (al riasah al ilmiyah), and communication (al muhadloroh) which hold a character and pesantren culture in each management function; yet it is not maximally implemented. Nevertheless, the learning and education process in Pondok Pesantren Raudlatut Thalibin are optimum. Gus Mus also proposes an ideal thought of pesantren education that is the integration between education (tarbiyah) and formal teaching (ta‟liim). Therefore, it is expected to produce the outputs that have basic morals andqualified cognitive with pesantren-based Islamic education.
