Abstract

Human being has a need to manage his life in ordet to achieve his goals. Education is a means and a modal to achieve the goals if it is complemented with positive and useful behaviour to himself and other people. Effective education requires its actors, either learners an teachers, to focus on their goal. As-Sayyid Muhammad bin “Alawi al-Maliki offers a concept of self management. His concept is special because he offers a combination among management, fiqh (syari’a), akhlak (character), and tasawuf (sufism). This is a research of figures. In this research, his works, which includes books, papers, and other writings, were analyzed with content analysis. The approach used in this research was character education as suggested by al-Gazali. The research findings on as-SayyidMuh}ammad bin ‘Alawi al Maliki’s self managent concept in Islamic education are as follows: 1) the urgency of Ahl al-‘Ilm and Ahl at-Tarbiyyah (education expert) is those who devote to write their knowledge with strong arguments, convey their knowledge sincerely to teach and guide to the good moral/character, and are just and wise. Loving them is a great grace for human beings because from their contribution human beings can understand the meaning of their life; 2) the urgency of learning material includes akidah, the pillars of religion, and advice of Salaf as}-S}a>lihi>n as important materials, focusing on the study of al-Ibadat (sef planning), al-‘Adat (self Organizing), al-Muhlikat (self actuating), and al-Munjiyat (self controlling) and approached with understanding al-Mu’a>malah since it study the knowledge deeply zahir and ba>t}in(physically and spiritually); 3) about the urgency of educational institution is explained that educational isitution needs to teach the importance of fiqh and akhlak (character), supported with sufism education as a filter for human being to be ethical and avoid radicalism which contains excessive values.
