Abstract

Teacher strategies are needed to improve students' speaking skills and basic learning materials, such as communicating or refuting opinions. This study aims to define the teacher's strategy and problem faced by teacher in teaching speaking in a bilingual class of intensive program at SMP Masyithoh Kroya. The writer used qualitative descriptive method in this research. The technique of collecting data is observation, interview, and documentation. Then, for analytical techniques are data collection, data reduction and data verification. The subject was an English teacher of bilingual class of intensive program at SMP Masyithoh Kroya. The research findings show that the teacher uses various strategies in teaching speaking of bilingual class in Intensive Program at 7th grade of SMP Masyithoh Kroya were drilling, role-play, discussion and simulation. Those strategies are appropriate for applied in teaching speaking. The problem in teaching speaking in bilingual class of intensive program is teachers struggle to get their pupils motivated to speak.
