Abstract

Speaking is one of competencies that should be had by students of Vocational high school (SMK) Islam Annur Losari in order to be competent worker. But, in the reality, many students have difficulties in practicing their speaking competence. To improve students’ speaking, researcher apply the Letter-U seating arrangement. This research aimed to find out whether letter – U seating arrangement impact on students’ speaking competence has significance or not and to identify degree is the level of letter – U seating arrangement impact toward students’ speaking competence. This research used true experimental design (quantitative research), there were two groups. Each group had 33 student. They were given pre-test and post-test. Speaking test, observation and documentation used as data collecting technique. The speaking test were analyzed by SPSS program. Result of this research showed the letter – U seating arrangement have not significant impact toward students’ speaking between pre-test and post-test in experimental group. It can be seen in t-test scoring data. Beside fluency, t-test of experimental group in post-test have not significant impact. Based on the table of distribution of t-test scores and t-table scores in the post-test of experimental group before fluency, the researcher concluded that t-test score was higher than t-table (15, 78 > 2, 03), but t-test scores and t-table scores in the post-test in grammar aspect was lower than t-table (-0, 47 > 2, 03), in Vocabulary was lower than t-table (2,027 > 2, 038, and Pronunciation, was lower than t-table (-7, 85 > 2, 03).
